Jonathans Happy Birthday Poem from Olga

Only moments after the minute I was born, I got a message from Olga with a poem she wrote for me for my birthday. It’s a beautiful poem, and I am really quite flattered at the time she took to write it for me. :) I got all kinds of ecards and such from everyone else, but she put a lot of thought into this, so I would like to share it with everyone.

Happy birthday to a special friend!
Although I haven’t known you many years,
Perhaps because you’ve dried so many tears,
Pleasure reigns as I these greetings send.
Your happiness should last till all things end!
Because you’ve been so sweet and understanding–
In toughest times you’ve made me laugh and smile–
Rejoice in your own specialness awhile:
This I’m not requesting but demanding!
How else to make yourself the celebration,
Doing what does not come naturally?
Always your concern has been for me,
Yet now you must endure my adoration!

Olga is a friend I have known on ICQ for sometime, here is her picture:

Isn’t she beautiful? :) Thank you Olga once again for all your kind words.

Whither Can a Lover Go…

This Writing came to my mind after a strange dream I had last night. Thought I would share it:

4. O SON OF JUSTICE!
Whither can a lover go but to the land of his beloved? and what seeker findeth rest away from his heart’s desire? To the true lover reunion is life, and separation is death. His breast is void of patience and his heart hath no peace. A myriad lives he would forsake to hasten to the abode of his beloved.

 (Baha’u'llah, The Persian Hidden Words)

This Writing reminds me somewhat of the time I was traveling in Romania. A girl from Holland who was traveling with us had made a song for this Writing that was absolutely beautiful. I still remember that song today.

Google vs. Yahoo! - Jonathan Uses Yahoo!

Posted on May 11th, 2007 by JonathanLIVE.

I get asked a lot of questions about a lot of topics relating to search engines. I guess I should reveal to everyone that my personal search preference actually sits with Yahoo!. I have several rather obvious reasons for this when you consider what has been going on with all the search engines in the recent years.

While most people are using Google, the ‘real’ searcher, will quickly find themselves EXTREMELY limited with Google as their search tool of preference. Googles every changing algorithms and their battle with spam pages in my opinion has rendered much of their index rather useless in finding sites fairly.

Yahoo! used to be a real mess, and had some really strange results in the past. However, in the last year I have seen it improve quite a bit, and finding the sources and results I want with Yahoo! is becoming increasingly easier than Google. I don’t like what Google has become as far as a search/index for organic results. If I want commercial results they are great. However if I am researching and would like to get some fair and even sources based on CONTENT, Yahoo! is the place to be.

I am not sure what MSN is doing anymore. Their index has always been a mess and still appears to be. Oddly enough though, there are still many people who use it, simply thanks to Microsofts dominance of the desktop and strategic partnerships with major ISPs. There have been a few occasions where I was able to find things in MSN though that once again I could not find in Google. MSN tends to be good at indexing online stores. Through them I have found excellent vendors that just were impossible to find in Google. I have saved thousands of dollars thanks to MSN Search over Google.

It seems like everyone and his brother thinks that if they use Google they are getting good results in their search. Everyone likes to be hip and cool and part of the gang, and many still think that Google is where it’s at to get all those things. If you took a moment to check out the other searches though, and are looking for results in your search vs. being part of the unwashed masses who even go so far as to equate Google as the only place to search, than check out Yahoo! these days. I think you will be impressed.

So, for all those who have wondered what I use for search, Yahoo! is the answer. ;)

Jonathans FaceBook Reconnecting The Past

Posted on May 10th, 2007 by JonathanLIVE.

I was rather slow to get into Facebook. Only recently I was forced to finally setup a profile after half dozen people I know online asked me for my profile. After getting a basic profile going and getting used to the navigation that is as vanilla as they come, I started to connect to friends and family. I was surprised to find people I knew from high school suddenly messaging me and asking me about how I was doing. Through my other friend’s profiles, they had already made connections with mutual friends, and so I was able to find them also.

This is social networking at its best really. Facebook has done a very good job at allowing people to interact and make connections with people from similar backgrounds based on basic elements that are common to pretty much everyone. Facebook appears to be mostly geo-targeted towards the North American populace from what I can tell. Given the structure of the site, and the methods by which to find others, it certainly becomes difficult to apply the same methods to many other countries.

I am still new to Facebook, and am curious to see if my starter adds will mushroom out at all to other connections with other people. I like the variety of security options that it gives for viewing/accessing various elements of your information. That is very effective in keeping Facebook clean and spam free. Not to mention addressing issues that MySpace has been critisized for in terms of bringing security to their pages against stalkers and pedophiles.

I am however looking forward to seeing Facebook get a face-lift. Their interface is so ridiculously plain, every feature appears the same. Often by fluke I am finding options that make Facebook come a little more alive.

Facebook did do one good thing for me. I reconnected with a friend I have not seen in years, and now we are going out to see Spiderman 3 tomorrow. YAY! :)

Looks like the past is connecting with the present.
