What is Emotional Maturity?

Posted on February 6th, 2007 by JonathanLIVE.
Categories: Thoughts.

A simple question that I think most would give various definitions to. However, I believe emotional maturity really comes from the realization that nothing anybody else does or says can really annoy or irritate you unless and until you give them permission to. There is only one way a person can disturb you, and that is through your own thoughts. Getting angry about something requires you to go through four stages in your mind that are pretty commonly understood by most who are students of mind processes.

First, you start out by thinking about what was said.

Second, you decide to get angry.

Third, generate emotions associated with that anger, usually in the form of rage.

Four, decide to act either in the form of talking back, or perhaps in the form of action.

See how much work it takes? Your thought, generated emotion, reacted, and took action all within your very own mind, nothing else.

So what does it mean to be emotionally mature? Simply to not be childish and react in a natural manner which tends to be negative in a resentful or critical manner of others. No one likes it, but we are all belittled or criticized in some form of another from time to time. When this happens however, we have the ability to choose how we are going to react when this happens. If you are mature, you refrain from responding in a similar level. Do not permit any kind of person, place, or thing to detract you from your inner sense of peace and health.

So now you have read this and maybe you are thinking, ‘Uh oh, this is me… can I change this?’. The answer is YES, emotional maturity isn’t that hard to come to. It calls for consistent action in prayer. Read the following prayer each day. Visualize all of your relations with others being in a peaceful and harmonious manner. See what you want to happen actually happening in your mind. As you think, so shall it be. Speak the following words daily with conviction and belief:

I think, speak, and act lovingly, quietly, and peacefully. I now radiate love, peace, tolerance, and kindliness to all those who criticized me and gossiped about me. I anchor my thoughts on peace, harmony, and goodwill to all.

Whenever I am about o react negatively, I say firmly to myself, “I think, speak, and act from the standpoint of the principle of harmony, health, and peace within myself.”

God leads, rules, and guides me in all my ways.

If this prayer makes a difference in your life please do post your comments about it. I would be happy to the share with you some additional information that will go a lot further. :)

Saving the World Popularized Today by 46 Nations Without US, China, India Support

46 nations are backing a body of efforts save us from ourselves. It looks like the soon to leave prime minister of France who has had a dismal track record in office wants to leave in a big bang of accomplishment so he doesn’t go down in history as yet another pathetic politician who did nothing but be various special interests groups personal hand puppet.

What is striking about this big deal is that out of all the countries of the world, the largest producers of pollution, USA, China, and India, are not interested in joining forces with the rest of the nations. While I do not know all the details of this new initiative, I have to wonder just what it is about this new effort that the big boys don’t like.

It seems everyone needed ‘proof’ from the world wide team of scientists to tell them that there is in fact a problem. How much more proof do you need than to just look at the climeractic events that have taken place over the last half decade? I don’t know enough about the new deal, but I certainly hope it is nothing like the Kyoto Protocol which was nothing more than a toothless tiger that was really just an elaborate money grab scheme to punish rich countries and funnel money into 3rd world countries. It effectively did NOTHING for the environment. Even if the targets are met, it would not even make a dent in the whole problem.

So how is this going to be different? Maybe the governments of the world cannot address social and economic issues, so aiming at the environment is a safe target for winning favour in the hearts and minds of the public body.

There is good news from the scientists though. We are NOT screwed!! YAY! We can still making it out of this without growing a 3rd lung and Teflon skin. :) However, it does mean taking major action NOW. Not 50 years from now like the Kyoto calls for. NOW NOW. The only thing governments have ever been able to do in a fast action is go to war. Everything else is debated endlessly as political officials get passed around from group to group playing hand puppets to their financial supporters. The issue is only a platform for that money to get back to them and their supporters some how.

Frankly I don’t believe any kinds of government efforts are going to be what really solves this. I believe the solution is at the grassroots. It comes back to simply making the environment and its product supporters something that sells. There are some small upstarts that just don’t have the financial backing to do what it takes to reach the larger markets the way they need to. To break into the major distribution channels and really change the way things happen. There is no doubt we have already developed enough technology to make it all work. It’s just a matter of getting either someone like me, or others like me, who have major financial resources to package, process, distribute, and market these things so that it is no longer about the dollars spent but the profits earned from the whole transaction. Oh yeah, and of course to either buy or bypass the hand puppets which influence those channels of distribution and media control. Gee… good thing I am an Internet master that could reach the masses with or without the media’s help. :) … Maybe these environmental solution companies need to hire someone like me to help get their message out there. TOOT TOOT :) (its confidence, not arrogance, back off :))
I welcome all other marketing ‘gurus’ to join me here in formulating ideas how this type of effort could become the next ‘hot’ product you could be promoting. ;)

Regardless, I do hope in the future my business dealings allow me to contribute to this what I consider the greatest business undertaking in history, the business of saving the world.

You Must Choose Happiness

Posted on January 25th, 2007 by JonathanLIVE.

As I have said for years, happiness is a state of mind. God has given us the power of choice and it is with that power that you can choose happiness, worry or fear. That is why there is a phrase in the Bible that says, Choose ye this day whom ye will serve. You have the freedom to choose happiness. This may appear extraordinarily simple to you, and guess what, it is. This is largely the reason why soooo many fall short on their way to happiness; they don’t see the simplicity of the key to happiness. The things in life that are great are simple, dynamic, and creative. They are that which produce well-being and happiness in all of us.

St. Paul revealed the formula on how you can think your way into a life of dynamic power and continual happiness in these words:

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

 (King James Bible, Philippians 4:8)

Â

If this is the case, then…

Â

Why Choose Unhappiness?!

Believe it or not, many choose unhappiness without realizing that they are doing so. This is done by entertaining thoughts and ideas like the following:

  • Today is a black day; everything is going to go wrong.
  • I am not going to succeed.
  • Everyone is against me.
  • Business is bad, and it is going to get worse.
  • I’m always late.
  • I never get the breaks.
  • He can, but I can’t.

If this is where your head is at when you start your day, you will most certainly attract ALL these experiences to you, and congratulations, you accomplished being unhappy. Takes effort.

You must realize that the world you live in is really determined largely by what goes on in your mind. Marcus Aurelius, the great Roman philosopher and sage, said,

A man’s life is what his thoughts make of it.

The leading American philosopher of the nineteenth century, Ralph Waldo Emerson, said,

A man is what he thinks all day long.

The very thoughts that you have a habit of entertaining in your head continually have a STRONG tendency to actualize themselves into physical conditions.

The solution… STOP IT! Just STOP indulging in negative, defeatist, unkind, or depressing thoughts. Keep at the forefront of your thinking the truth that you can experience nothing outside your own mentality.

There are no blocks to your happiness save in your own thought life and mental imagery. Are fear or worry holding you back from something? Fear is nothing more than a thought in your mind. You can dig it up in this very moment by supplanting it with FAITH in success, achievement, and victory over all problems.

The happiest person is the one who constantly brings forth in the way of actions what is best in him or herself. Happiness is a complement to virtue. The best and happiest are masters in the art of living. God is the highest, and the greatest power in you. Express more of God’s love, light, glory, truth, and beauty, and you will become one of the happiest in the world. Have trouble believing this? At the risk of sounding like I am tooting my own horn, I can tell you first hand that I have been characterized by many people as the happiest guy they know. It’s not a front, I am not trying to fool anybody. I am just this way because I practice exactly what I am sharing with you here. As I am trying to illustrate, there is nothing special, or difficult about this. It is simply an exercise of your God given freedom of choose happiness over unhappiness. To end off, you can take the words of Epictetus, the Greek Stonic philospher to heart and start on the path of happiness NOW:

These is but one way to tranquility of mind and happiness; let this, therefore, be always ready at hand with thee, both when thou wakest early in the morning, and all the day long, and when thou goest late to sleep, to account no external things thine own, but commit all these to God.

Winter is Here Finally - Thank Global Conciousness

Posted on January 18th, 2007 by JonathanLIVE.
Categories: Thoughts.

Well, it took half the season, but winter finally hit Toronto Canada this week. Do you think people are more aware of the changes in climate now? I think most will quickly forget. However, this year has been the strangest in the history of weather as we know it. I know this might sound strange, but I am not so convinced that the changing climate is entirely an environmental one. I mean, I agree that things are bad, and yada yada, but I have this idea that the changing patterns we are seeing are more reflections of a changing world thought.

I heard not to long ago about the EGG project. An interesting experiment on how our consciousness can actually physically alter data. Fascinating idea. What is more interesting is that they actually have several years of data that shows a rather sizeable amount of evidence that correlates to world events.

We have a new world emerging today that is unlike any period in the history of humanity. The trials and tribulations of that birth in my estimation have a certain influence over the world about us. The EGG project seems to be some scientific backing that suggests that my beliefs and ideas of the unseen certainly are not as far fetched as I find most quick to think.

If it is indeed the events of the world that affect how we see the world and thus affect how our global consciousness alters it, what do you think will happen as we move further away from wars, and close towards peace? Could it be that the misbalance, the upsetting of the equilibrium of the world has taken place only in our heads and our hearts, and thus, is where the solution exists to the environmental situation of the world?

As a Baha’i, this is well in line with most of what I know in my own studies. Baha’is of course are among the most active participants in the world of environmental restoration and development. We also know that the the solution to the worlds problems will not be found in technology or new laws and governments, but will take place in the hearts of the people. The one place most seem to deny acknowledgement of as the source. I find most religious folks prefer to put the blame/responsibility to save the world directly in the hands of God. Makes believing a lot more comfortable that way… you got nothing to do but pray. I digress. :)

Next time you want to change the environment, start with your head, move it to your heart, then teach another to do the same. ;)

Children of Men

Posted on January 14th, 2007 by JonathanLIVE.

Tonight I was prompted by my friends to go see the movie Children of Men. It’s about the future some 30 years from now and the whole world by some freak of nature has become infertile. One woman by yet another freak of nature in that time, has become pregnant. It painted a picture of political turmoil, social unrest, and a world all gone to hell basically. I think they put a lot of thought into portraying a realistic image of how the world would respond to such a situation. All hope for the future gone… a world without children… knowing that everything being done will not been seen by another human being in the future would drive everyone into a hopeless state.

There were some rather obvious current political messages and overtones within the movie that were talking about the current Iraq war, and President Bush… maybe the movie was trying to suggest that if we continued down the same road he has lead, that we may see a future like the one illustrated in the movie.

The lead character was a pathetic man who started out as a weak character who didn’t care about anything. It was only once his life was in danger and he found out about the woman that he made a run for it and started into action. The images of refugees being treated like cattle, and military control that was dehumanizing everyone was sad to see.

The makers of the movie also did their part to portray Islam as the only religious fanaticals in the world. Anyone else notice that every single refugee in the movie was someone speaking some various type of European language… while English speakers were legitimate citizens?

My friends were expecting a lot more from the movie, and they are not big fans of thought provoking political films like this one, so they walked away from the theater ranting about how terrible it was.

For myself, I think the obvious message which it was sending that was displayed at the very end got across. Children of Men sends a message of thinking of our children now and the world we are creating for tomorrow. By glimpsing into the next generation what could happen to them if we continue the way we are, we destroy all hope for humanities future.

Overall, not too bad of a movie with a rather serious message.
