I get asked a lot of questions about a lot of topics relating to search engines. I guess I should reveal to everyone that my personal search preference actually sits with Yahoo!. I have several rather obvious reasons for this when you consider what has been going on with all the search engines in the recent years.
While most people are using Google, the ‘real’ searcher, will quickly find themselves EXTREMELY limited with Google as their search tool of preference. Googles every changing algorithms and their battle with spam pages in my opinion has rendered much of their index rather useless in finding sites fairly.
Yahoo! used to be a real mess, and had some really strange results in the past. However, in the last year I have seen it improve quite a bit, and finding the sources and results I want with Yahoo! is becoming increasingly easier than Google. I don’t like what Google has become as far as a search/index for organic results. If I want commercial results they are great. However if I am researching and would like to get some fair and even sources based on CONTENT, Yahoo! is the place to be.
I am not sure what MSN is doing anymore. Their index has always been a mess and still appears to be. Oddly enough though, there are still many people who use it, simply thanks to Microsofts dominance of the desktop and strategic partnerships with major ISPs. There have been a few occasions where I was able to find things in MSN though that once again I could not find in Google. MSN tends to be good at indexing online stores. Through them I have found excellent vendors that just were impossible to find in Google. I have saved thousands of dollars thanks to MSN Search over Google.
It seems like everyone and his brother thinks that if they use Google they are getting good results in their search. Everyone likes to be hip and cool and part of the gang, and many still think that Google is where it’s at to get all those things. If you took a moment to check out the other searches though, and are looking for results in your search vs. being part of the unwashed masses who even go so far as to equate Google as the only place to search, than check out Yahoo! these days. I think you will be impressed.
So, for all those who have wondered what I use for search, Yahoo! is the answer. ![]()
