Happy Birthday to Me

Well, today marks another year on planet earth. Thus far I have existed for 32 years in this world. I didn’t do much to celebrate it this year. I have been really caught up in a situation with my web hosting company that has taken most of my time this past week, so I didn’t think much about this birthday. Regardless, I did want to take some time to reflect on the past year on a number of things. It has certainly been an interesting year when I think back on it.

Business
This past year I learned some very harsh lessons in dealing with vendors/service providers online. These lessons came with a very large price tag for me, and some of my clients. I also re-learned something I already knew. I allowed a shifty character to enter into my life that was able to spin a good story. I tend to trust in others until they have proven that trust otherwise misplaced. This doesn’t work well when you deal with a pathological liar. It can take a long time until the house of cards becomes clear with these characters. So I re-learned from all this to judge others not only by their word, but by their actions. Put more weight in their actions, and less in their pathetic excuses.

In business I have learned stop passing promise dates based on what others say. If someone promises me it will be done in 3 days, I will say a week now. If they say one more day, I will say 3 more. :) What’s ironic is that often times even when I still give the extended dates, those are not even met. :) Guess I’ll keep working on that one.

I have learned that potential clients who come to me wanting me to do some kind of work in trade for a percentage of their profits are a complete waste of my time.

I have discovered that under all circumstances money will continue to flow to me no matter what happens.

Personal
I have had a lot of personal breakthroughs this past year. Most notable is in the area of love. I have enjoyed being in love this past year with someone who has changed my life forever. She is gone now, and I will go into the next year without her. Though because of her, I became more aware of who and what I am, and the importance of my vision for my life. I stretched in ways that I never have in the past, and I have her to thank for that. There are many other things I am thankful to her for that are too numerous to list.

Many of my friends have been concerned over how I must be sad or feel hurt over this. I haven’t felt that way at all. I have trusted in God through out this journey and have not misplaced that trust into people and things that are out of my control. As wonderful and great as she was, I know that this recent change of fortunes only means an even greater woman with the capacities, capabilities, and courage to stand with me in this great adventure will be brought to me in an unforseen manner, much the same way she appeared. I accept the gifts that God gives me, and cherish them. She will always be one of my most cherished gifts that enriched my life in ways nobody will really know or understand.

Last year I was determined to improve my personal health, and I have come a long way in accomplishing that. As of today I am 18 lbs lighter than last year, with much more strength and muscle. No more neglecting my health for work anymore. I have seen how that 1 hour a day at the gym has made a difference in the rest of my work, so it stays. :)

In the last year I have discovered the amazing wonder of not using an alarm clock. Sleeping as long as I want/need has made a big difference in productivity. With everything else I do, for most days, I don’t need more than 5-7 hours sleep. The days where I MUST be up at a certain time I will use an alarm. I used to set my alarm all the time and get up early regardless of how late I worked. I discovered life without the alarm clock is more productive because I am more alert and getting things done. When I’m tired at the keyboard, not to much is happening.

My personal understanding of certain spiritual principles and realities has greatly increased in this last year. I believe I have gained a much more balanced understanding and appreciation for the human condition. Great thing about being a Baha’i, is that we are always seeking the truth, and so when it comes to matters like this, it is very easy for us to adapt our perspective to new knowledge, experiences, and understanding, rather than being bound to just one particular writ, creed, or dogma. I am forever thankful for the teachings of Baha’u'llah and the powers and capabilities His teachings have enabled within me.

Future Plans
This year will be a bigger year for me. This year I will break seven figures instead of six. I will travel about the world and meet many new people and reduce the time I spend on my business. While I will spend less time online, the activities I plan to take on this year offline will all lead back to my online businesses. I will complete the outstanding projects I am working on now, and start some new ones.

I am looking forward to my travels. I have many friends around the world I’m looking forward to spending time with. At the same time looking forward to setting up various business operations. Great thing about working online is that no matter where I go, I can always access my business. :)

I will continue to increase in health and vitality by continuing with my weight training and good diet. I am looking forward to the results.

These are just some recaps and reflections of the past year and what I would like to see in the year to come. Overall I am expecting great things from this year. :)
